But since the Oxford English Dictionary defines risk as:

“(Exposure to) the possibility of loss, injury, or other adverse or unwelcome circumstance; a chance or situation involving such a possibility”

it seemed wise to balance the picture with:

… and fools rush in where angels fear to tread!

Risk is fun - but so is tiddlywinks if you are bored
Risk is rewarding - or you can lose everything
Risk is challenging - only if you think about it ; but then is it risk or a calculated probability?
Risk is different - if you aren’t a lemming
Risk is worth it - but only if you win
Risk is visionary - if the dream doesn’t turn into a nightmare
Risk is risky, is risky - is risky….is risky….
Risk is the best damn thing I learned to do growing up - I wouldn't admit that myself!

I opened up a new packet of panti-hose this morning and out popped a little card with the following quote:
“Life shrinks and expands in proportion to one’s courage” (Anais Nin)

That got me thinking about the difference between being a risk-taker and having courage to do something. Having courage means you are prepared to face a possible danger without retreating. It implies bravery and spirit. Risk-taking however, implies a certain fool-hardiness, ploughing in regardless of consequences.

Courage acknowledges that you are aware of the peril and prepared to face it if it arises. Risk taking implies rather that you see the peril as a possibility, but keep your fingers crossed.

“He risked his life to save his dog” – is this courageous or foolhardy risk taking?

Maybe it’s just semantics, but I would rather look at possible outcomes and have the courage to act, than simply rush in as a risk-taker.

risk is important... but calculated risk....

Absolutely! A bit like having an educated bet at the races as opposed to using a slot machine at the casino!
