How to Wear One Piece Three Different Ways
By Yasemin Trollope for The Style Glossy
You know something’s a staple when you see vintage images of Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot and get clothes-envy over their Breton striped tees. It’s clearly a case of timeless fashion. And with today’s “save a penny” mentality, it’s only natural to want to maximise your return on assets -- even if they are considered classics.
So with that money-saving mentality in mind, let’s explore these three fun ways to wear our favourite fashion staple (a blue-and-white striped Breton, if you’re still wondering).
1. Pair it with shorts and a cardigan.
If you’re a shorts-wearer, pair your striped tee with a bold pair of blue shorts for a true sense of setting sail. Play up bold colours like aqua, teal or baby blue, or keep it more traditional with a trusty pair of navy blues.
Once you’ve found your bottoms, pop a light-coloured cardigan over the top to protect you from that sea breeze.
2. Work it back with jeans and a jacket.
For something more laid-back, try adding some street-cred to your tee by pairing it with skinny jeans and a casual lightweight coat. Go for something vibrant, like red, blue or green on your bottom if you’re feeling brave, or stick to basic blue or black jeans if you’re a traditionalist. Either way works just fine.
When it comes to your jacket, anything from a waist-cinching anorak to a blazer will do the trick. Stick to lighter colours, or go all out and experiment with colour blocking if you’re in the mood.
3. Jazz it up with a miniskirt and poncho.
There’s something so classically sexy about having your arms and chest covered, and your legs out in all their glory. Plus, it instantly dresses up this perfect-for-all-occasions staple tee.
If this sounds like you, simply reach for your favourite high-impact skirt. Think along the lines of metallic shades for something more fashion-forward. Play with patterns, prints, shades, shapes and lengths too.
For a perfect partnership, wear your tee and skirt with a tonal poncho or shawl, and have a desk-to-dance-floor outfit in minutes.
