When it comes to fashion, some of us want to be leaders and feel comfortable taking chances and others like to be safe – whether you want to go big and bold or small and subtle - accessorising should definitely be a part of your wardrobe! There are potentially hundreds of other ladies out there wearing exactly the same thing as you on any given day, so stand out from the crowd and create your own identity. Accessorising can be your point of difference but surprisingly they are also extremely practical!!

Practical??? Absolutely...your most practical accessory is your handbag, so don’t just think of it as a handbag...yes it holds our credit cards, our much needed lip gloss and the kitchen sink but an oversized handbag can take emphasis off your big bottom and draw attention up to your defined waist, a cute clutch can transform a little black dress from drab to fab - our mere handbag can be one of our best ways to hide a multitude of sins. If you are tall and thin, look for a slouchy, rounded bag or if you're short and voluptuous, look for something that is long and sleek (like a clutch)...as a general rule choose a handbag that is opposite to your figure.

Most accessories are in some way or another practical, whether they be functional like your handbag or your watch or practical in the sense of creating a better body shape, warmth in winter or shade in summer. A scarf in winter can elongate your body as can a long chunky necklace, a hat or beanie can help you survive a bad hair day or the UV rays and a belt can give you a more flattering silhouette. If you don’t have time to go home and get changed after work, accessories can be your saviour - change your court shoes to hot pumps, add some epaulettes (ornamental shoulder pads) to your dress or jacket and within seconds you can change an outfit from chic to glam.

We have all heard the saying, a picture paints a thousand words, and by accessorising you are painting a picture of you and your personality. Don’t be like everyone else, create your own look and style by choosing accessorises that tell a story about you – but remember everything in moderation, one or two can turn you into a goddess, a huge amount can make you look bigger rather than better.

There is inspiration all around you – find what a style you like by looking at fashion magazines or check out all the lookbooks on fashion sites, and don’t be scared to get out there and try something new. Take a picture with you to help you create the look you like and try, try and try again!!
