Green smoothies are healthy treats that are made up of well, vegetables. Veggies are the ingredients of choice for green smoothies, although other food can be mixed in as well, especially fruits, fruit juices, nuts, and beans. These are called green smoothies because most of the ingredients that are mixed in with the vegetables are natural.

There are many ways to prepare vegetable smoothies, but in their simplest form smoothies only require a blender, vegetables of your choice, and some ice. Just mix everything in the blender, and start blending, and there you have it, green smoothies for you and your family.

The question really is how can you enjoy the benefits of drinking green smoothies everyday? Vegetables are some of the most nutritious foods that humans consume daily. Vegetables contain vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other essential nutrients to keep the body healthy and safe from diseases. Along with vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, and other natural foods are as nutritious and as important to the body.
The following are some tips you can follow when making green smoothies to improve your health and especially your family's.

First, when making green smoothies, anything goes. You can add anything you like, as long as the vegetable or fruit is fresh. You can mix and match anything you like. Just remember that if you needed to sweeten up your mix, there are sweet fruits available. Use the sweetness of the fruits to complement flavors of certain vegetables to make the whole smoothie delicious and nutritious.

Second, when choosing the fruits or vegetables you are going to add in your smoothie, make sure that they are in season. When fruits or vegetables are in season they are more likely to be cheaper compared to those that are not in season. Those that are in season are also more natural, since growing them is easy and will not require a lot of artificial fertilizers. After all, they are bound to grow even without the fertilizers. The fewer fertilizers the farmers put while growing the fruit or vegetables, the more natural it is and the better for the body.

Third, always use other ingredients to a minimum. Sometimes your smoothies do not pass the kids' taste tests, so make sure you add a little bit of extra flavor to convince them to drink the smoothies. If the shake is not sweet enough and the fruit sugars are not sufficient, then there is no problem with adding table sugar. Make sure to use a very small amount. Think of it this way, if the additional sugar, milk, or honey is enough to persuade your kids to drink up their smoothies, then it is better than nothing at all.

Green smoothies are very healthy drinks that everyone will enjoy. At first it will take some getting used to, but as soon as they taste it and enjoy the flavors and understand the benefits of drinking such shakes, then they will embrace the green smoothies in no time. Eating natural and healthy foods will do wonders for your health, and green smoothies are the way to have your required amounts of fruits and vegetables.

I've got a juicer that I use instead of a blender. Does this do the same thing or do you need the whole fruit/vegetable for it to be of any benefit?

I use a juicer for this too. Really like my juicer! Bit of a pain to clean though.

It would be great if someone could post some recipes... there would be so many that taste horrible, it would be nice to start with one that actually tastes ok and then experiment from there.

Also, the article says "anything goes. You can add anything you like, as long as the vegetable or fruit is fresh". Is this true? I thought it was bad to eat raw potatoes, and I can't imagine kumara being very nice either.
