New years diet failing due to the back to work blues and sugar cravings?

Me too!

I have begun combating this by freezing fruit. I am lucky enough to have access to freezers at work, but if you don't you can freeze the night before and pop them into a Thermos (always remember, not only are they great for keeping things warm, but also cold - even frozen!)

My favourite are green grapes and 'seedless' watermelon cubes. Now, I don't know what your office (or whatever work area you have!) is like, but 90% of the time our aircon is either not working, or lying to us and saying it's working but the temperature in the room tells a different story.

My work often has ice blocks in the freezer on hand for staff when they need to cool down and a bit of a pick me up. That's great and very thoughtful, but was not helping my healthy eating plan stay on track. Sure it's all good every now and then, but pretty much every day last week we were dying a slow sweat induced death.

Instead of joining the others I had been smart that morning, our work supplies us with fruit bowls twice a week, and this week it had grapes and oranges! Yay! So I got a container chucked everything in as is, and when the afternoon sun hit our side of the office and everyone splashed their calories out on ice cream and ice blocks, I grabbed my frozen fruit - here's an awesome tip, if you freeze your orange whole, it's really easy to peel and get rid of that bitter white stuff known as the pith. So I peeled my orange, cut it into cubes without losing any of the scrummy juice and pulled my grapes off of the viney bit. Normally if I was at home I would skewer them but no need I grabbed a fork and had my delish frozen fruit salad. Occasionally I will chuck them into a blender to make a 'snow cone'.

If I want the creamy stuff? It takes a little more prep but I slice up bananas pop them in a baking sheet and put them in the freezer for 15 mins, then I chuck them in a blender, put it back into a container and back into the freezer, it's all ready by ice block time, I grab myself a scoop, often add some nuts, shredded coconut, sometimes some sneaky chocolate chips - whatever takes my fancy... And there's my treat!

As a great upgrade to my 'ice cream' I will often blend coconut milk or cream into the bananas before they make their way to the second stint in the freezer. If I really need an extra special treat, I sometimes warm up some Doris plum jam and use it as a topping.

It's just PERFECT for those insanely hot days where you're craving a little something bad, without adding tooooo many extra calories. You could pretty much make any smoothly and freeze it.

frozen yoghurt is what i use. you can get some really nice ones from the supermarket which are small and just 43 calories :)


Oooh! What brand are they do you know? And are they single serve?

I suppose I could just freeze plain Greek yoghurt and then add my topping in the same way I do to my banana ice, that would save the prep and add heaps of protein. In fact this would make a really yummy fresh and invigorating breakfast - especially if I had it around morning tea time and go sit in the sun to have it.

I hadn't actually thought of freezing fruit - great tip thanks! I've seen people do frozen yoghurt drops (do drops onto a baking sheet and freeze), still to try it out but definitely like the idea. My go to's are definitely sugar free gum and ww jelly. Good for sweet cravings.

We have a freezer at work never thought of freezing fruit it sounds good. We sometimes have fruit left over from the residents and grapes are usually there so I think I might go and put some in the freezer from now, on these hot hot nights it would be very refreshing to tuck into a nice health cold snack.

My body has never craved sugar but this year it is on it's own agenda and won't stop eating it!! Time to engage the brain and take over.

The author is a cancer surviver or thriver as she calls it and believes this is through the help of the gersen diet and subsequently changing to whole foods. Worth a read, look it up. It takes 3 weeks for sugar to get out of your cells and your system so give yourself at least a month to start seeing the positive results of your hard work.

Have lost 3 kgs so far! Slowly but surely. Somes better than none though. I think I just have to watch the weekends as thats when I seem to eat most sugary stuff.
