Here at the Chelsey office we use Spotify daily as our musical jukebox, so Rachel was excited to have the chance to chat to Kate Vale, music lover, gig goer, festival regular, and Spotify's Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand.

Can you tell me a bit about your background? Have you always been involved in the music industry?

This is my first time working in the music industry, I have been in the digital industry for over 14 years, and prior to Spotify, I was Google’s first regional hire as Head Of Sales for Australia and New Zealand, and then moving to Youtube in 2009.

This month I joined the team at Spotify have been working hard launching the world’s biggest and most successful music streaming service of its kind.

You have just released Spotify’s brand new feature services, including being able to listen in on celebritie’s playlists. What are your expectations for this?

We’ve been listening to our users and have now made music discovery a whole lot easier. With over 20 million songs on offer where else would you begin making your music choice? None other than your favourite artists and celebrities!

It definitely gives the public and insight into the lives of performing artists, and make tracks available as soon as they are recorded in the studio. We believe it will make a BIG difference!

Who are some upcoming artists that we should look out for in the new year?

We have been closely working with fellow kiwi singer Jamie McDell, she is amazing.

What is currently on your personal Spotify playlist?

Little Dragon, Bloc party, St Lucia and I'm loving Hermitude’s track – Hyper Paradise.

Do you listen to any Kiwi Music? If so, what are some of your favourite New Zealand Artists?

Jamie McDell of course, Kimbra, Titanium, Dane Rumble and Ruby Frost!

Who are your top three ultimate music icons

That’s a tough one! But at the top of my list would surely be The Foo Fighters and Michael Hutchence.
