Brushes and Bubbles

First it was adult colouring, now it’s Wine and Paint parties: and thanks to two entrepreneurial women Aucklanders can now unwind with the latest creative craze.

Visual arts graduate and certified teacher Laurie Merk and Social Worker and facilitator Cassandra Ruhe-Hodge were inspired to start Mixing it Up Wine and Painting events after noticing their growing international success. “Sometimes our lives can be so swallowed up by responsibilities that we forget to do things that fill us with happiness,” says Cassandra. “Our events encourage people to make time out for themselves while trying something new.”

“They allow you to reignite your creativity in a supportive fun atmosphere,” says Laurie. “Painting while sipping your favourite drink is a perfect way to relax and recharge during time out with friends.”

No previous experience or artistic skills are needed to attend the events, where guests are guided step-by-step through creating a featured painting. “People come and say, ‘I can’t even draw a stickman,’ but leave with a feeling of accomplishment and a piece they are proud to display or give to others,” says Laurie.

Everything needed to create a masterpiece is supplied, so you can put on an apron, set all distractions aside and take pleasure in the process. Public Mixing It Up Wine and Painting events are held at restaurants and community venues across the city or you can book them for conferences, team building or private parties like birthdays or bespoke celebrations.

Venues are hand selected on their authentic upscale vibes, boasting a selection of nibbles, alcoholic tipples or non-alcoholic options for staying hydrated between brush strokes and conversation.

Check the event calendar or schedule a private Wine and Paint party at mixingitup.co.nz and follow them on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube.
