The excitement of being newly engaged can be overwhelming and the desire to set a date with the perfect venue means a lot of couples set out quickly in search of finding the right location for their special day……..but do you know what you want?

Below are our top tips to help you select the perfect wedding location:

Decide on the type of wedding you both want and the location, is it a garden, vineyard, beach, marquee or a contemporary city location.  Are there options for you to have your ceremony on site and is there a contingency in case of wet weather.  Are there ideal spots for your photographs.

Budget – agree on a budget upfront.  Your wedding reception will be the biggest percentage of your budget so it’s important to work out early what’s going to be affordable.

Size – How many guests do you anticipate inviting.  Getting the right venue for your wedding size can help narrow down your selection to choose from.

Wedding Coordinator – This person is so important to the overall picture of the day.  You will build a relationship with them and they have responsibility for delivering on the day.  Ask lots of questions, are they knowledgeable, helpful, do you have confidence in them.  Check what level of communication and support they will provide through the planning process.

Pricing – Some venues offer packages, BYO or individual pricing making it difficult to make comparisons.  Create a spreadsheet so you can get a clear picture of the overall price.  Make sure you have all the costs for venue hire, menu, staff, beverages, security, cleaning and that there are no other hidden costs.  Do the prices include or exclude GST?

Food & Service – I am a big believer that two of the main things guests will walk away from a wedding and remember is “was the food good” and what the service was like.  This is a significant part of the day so it’s important to have confidence that both of these areas will meet or exceed your expectations.

Making a Decision – when you get down to your final 3 as I often find with many couples, sit separate from each other and write down your favourite.  If it’s the same as each other, decision made.  If not you’ve narrowed it down to 2 and the it’s a matter of reviewing the pros and cons of both until you can make a final decision.Enjoy the journey of finding the perfect location for what will be one of the most special days in your lives. This is the place you will be celebrating and sharing special moments with family and friends so relax and trust your gut instinct.  If it feels right it usually is.
