Weddings are, in its purest form, a celebration of love. And yet, so many receptions are stiff, prim and tense. While there are plenty of reasons to praise wedding traditions, you and your fiancé might decide to free your big day of dated restraint in favor of festive levity. You can persuade your guests to relax and let their metaphorical hair down, and a great way to encourage this is by the presentation of the reception’s food. While you might opt to feature a traditional sit-down dinner, there are other alternatives and additives that will be fun, serve as conversation starters among strangers, foster increased mingling and liven up the event’s energy.
You will, most likely, want to have a bar that can serve your guests with the typical wine, beer and cocktails; a memorable, healthy addition that is sure to be a hit is the smoothie bar! Stocked with ice cream, juices and a wide array of fresh fruit and vegetables, guests will have dozens of different combinations to sample, like “cucumber-strawberry” and “banana-orange.” Not only does the smoothie bar encourage healthy living, but it will keep people naturallyenergized for the night’s festivities. Children and non-drinkers will especially love this feature, and you might be surprised by how many drinkers forget about the wine and beer in favor of the fruiter alternative.
Chefs can be a great source of food and entertainment when you have them set up in visible areas at which attendants can directly order bites like sushi, omelets, crepes and burgers. Many times, partygoers eat more than they would otherwise simply out of boredom. If you keep them amused, you could potentially reduce the amount of ingredients that are consumed. Simpler dishes like tacos, pasta, baked potatoes, waffles, salads and sundaes can be pulled together by the partygoers themselves, so give them the freedom to get a little messy at these designated stations.
S’mores can be prepared in a variety of different ways; while indoor events might favor cooking the marshmallows over bunsen burners, having partygoers approach a traditional fire with their marshmallows on long sticks will nicely compliment small, rustic weddings and provide unique lighting for fantastic party photographs.
A visual that is promised to make even grown-men squeal is a delicious chocolate fountain. Guests can use long sticks to spear marshmallows, strawberries, cookies, and cheesecake bites to place within the cascading chocolate. While they might choose to then delicately put the coated food onto their plate, don’t be surprised to see even the most formal of the guests gleefully putting the goodies directly into their mouth.
When it comes to wedding favors, too many times couples seem to be under the impression that hundreds of partygoers all have the same taste. Obviously, this is not true. Give your guests something that they are guaranteed to like with a candy buffet? Attendants can be provided with empty favor boxes or bags and guided towards a table with goodies like M&Ms, gum drops, peppermints, chocolates, jellybeans, gumballs and more. For the diabetics and guests that are trying to eat healthier, include options like nuts and dried fruits. Not only will this give guests the chance to select what they are sure to like, but it will be a joyfully colorful addition to the room’s aesthetic. Make sure to provide scoops for each of the options (and keep a few spare ones ready in case they are dropped) and make sure to ask parents to keep small children from dipping sticky fingers directly into the food.
