Style Secrets....The Summer of Colour

Julia Turnwald

As a personal stylist my belief is that looking great comes not just from what we wear on the outside but also from feeling beautiful within. I take great pride in helping my clients find a look that fits their personality and their body so they look and feel absolutely gorgeous. I will be sharing tips, tricks and trends on Fashion here at Chelsey.co.nz, to find out more about personal styling see my website www.juliaturnwald.co.nz.

There is no doubt that one of the biggest trends this summer is block colour. It can be a bit of a shock to the system after a bland winter to try and incorporate bold, brash colour into your wardrobe so here are a few simple tips and looks to help inspire you to get a little bit bright this season.

So what is colour blocking??

It is simply the use of two or more colours. There are no rules; it is all up to your imagination!!

How do I block colour??

To perfect this fashion trend you need to choose the right combinations of colours for maximum impact, but also be conscious of colours that work with your skin tone and your personality. A few colours that work well together include pink and purple, orange and blue, red and pink and cobalt blue and red.

If you are going bright, go bright all the way – don’t get shy half way through and add pastels (unless you are using this as a base), this will end up looking dull and off trend.

If you don’t want to be a summer siren but do want to brighten your look then add colour through your accessories. My favourite way to add colour is through my nail polish (try shellac it is fabulous!!) or through  bangles...there is nothing cuter than an armful of coloured bangles this summer.

Here are a few of my favourite looks...

and a few of my favourite accessories...

I've got that handbag and I absolutely love it! I wear it with black and blue or navy mostly but sometimes I get a bit bolder and try some unusual colour combinations too like chartreuse. I have red sandals and shoes to match too and find it's a great look for summer and winter!

I find the biggest way to start the day off on a really great note is to find the boldest colours in your wardrobe and wear them with pride giving you a really good boost of confidence as you go about your day or even it's just painting your toe nails works just as well if you don't want to go the whole hog.

I love rocking it over summer in strapless maxi dresses and a nice pair of flat shoes a floppy hat and some dark shades.....with a crochet tote bag or even a flax woven bag.......I usually purchase when I can and have the money maxi dresses and other types of clothing online from the US, usually going for the clearance sale items...and then mix and match with what I have already....seems to work a treat and am so looking forward to summer....
