Taking a turn back to femininity and beauty with a very notable modern twist, Sarah Gentil introduces us to Il Nido – her own line of beautiful homewares making a splash in the Australasian market.
The concept for Il Nido was born after a trip to London. A love of homewares and a background of fashion design led Sarah to notice the beautiful aprons seemingly everywhere in the UK. She soon realized there was a real gap in the niche market for something of the like in New Zealand and thus Il Nido was born in April 2012.
Acting as chief designer, production manager and sales and marketing chief, Sarah utilized her 15 years of experience in the Fashion industry to move into designing homewares – something she describes as a very natural progression for her.
What started out initially as an apron business has rapidly turned into so much more and is still branching out today. The first year of Il Nido’s journey has been nothing short of amazing and continues to draw inspiration from fabrics, travelling, the love of colour and floral designs.
Il Nido’s collaboration with NZ’s Hottest Home Baker has thrust this growing business into the spotlight. From watching the last season of the popular show, Sarah decided that her aprons would feature in the next season. This ended up serving as a bench-mark and a goal to achieve – something that has been realized with the shows fourth season, currently airing on TV3.
For those with an interest in keeping things truly one of a kind, Il Nido offers a made to order service. They have created the staff uniform at the new Ponsonby hot spot Bread and Butter café and bakery.
The future of Il Nido is looking bright and you should expect to see their products stocked at various gift, homewares and furniture stores throughout NZ and Australia. Currently there are 25 stockists in Australasia and this number is rapidly growing.
