Another sermon about healthy eating! How many times have I read almost this identical article? It's so general. We read it. We may wholeheartedly agree with it. But in the end, we don't radically change. We’re already doing our bit. It's a bit like someone nagging us to be tidy. We know he benefits. We know how to pick things up. However, the way we live suits us. Or maybe is driving just that little bit over the speed limit. We are not going to kill anyone are we? The same goes for your diet. We're doing ok so why go to all the trouble to change? Maybe I'll try it today, tomorrow even, but there's the birthday morning tea, and the BBQ, and Anna's party.... mmm, didn't mention alcohol!

If it is really going to have more of an effect, maybe this type of article should be accompanied with pictures like cigarette adverts - show comparisons of healthy and diseased hearts, rolls of fat wobbling, people struck with cancer. But would we believe it even then? I doubt it. It is unlikely we would relate to these consequences happening to us.

We mostly see ourselves as ok – maybe a bit overweight or even underweight - no big problem! It’s those greedy fat people over there who need to take heed!

I believe that most of us have a pretty good idea what healthy eating is. Further we are intelligent enough to know that if it is about ‘healthy’ then it is good for us. We already know about making healthy choices and believe we do this - when we feel like it.

However this general sort of story is so old hat- yet another repeat. There is nothing new, memorable or shocking to make us sit up and take note that some of us really need to do more. It is not talking to us personally with a message that could enhance or even save our lives.

Instead i started to eat more fruits and less roast dishes.
