When your body is craving sugar it may be telling you it wants something sweet. This doesn't mean we should go to the store and buy a pack of sour patch kids and ice cream. Resisting the temptations of sugary foods can be a very hard thing to do but this article will not only help you resist them, but it will show you how to make the best of your cravings by substituting the bad sugary foods with healthy high nutrient, whole foods.


Fruit can help you to satisfy the sugar cravings, your body needs something sweet and it is better to eat fruit instead of that tempting candy bar. Fruit is a naturally sweet and healthy alternative to those junk-food snacks. The great thing is that you can eat a lot of fruit and not be consuming unhealthy calories - fruit is full of nutrients and fiber and will help to nourish your body. So instead of eating candy, cut up some fruit to eat. The sweeter the fruit the easier it will be to kick the sugar craving. Here are some great fruits that are very sweet to choose from:


When these sugar cravings come along and you are really wanting to go get an ice cream shake I suggest you make a healthy fruit smoothie instead. Smoothies are delicious, easy to make, and much healthier than shakes are. Simply take any fruit you want, put it in your blender, as some ice, and your good to go! If you want a creamy shake, add in some coconut milk. Fruit smoothies are creamy and delicious - they are fantastic alternatives to high calorie, sugar loaded shakes.

Eating a little sugar every now and then is okay, just don't over do it. Eating processed foods that are high in sugar and calories have been know to cause obesity, high cholesterol, and heart disease. Avoiding these foods is crucial to your health.

Replacing processed sugary foods with healthier alternatives is so much better for your body. The next time you feel the need to run to the store to pick up some candy, cookies, or ice cream try to resist the urge and use one of the helpful tips mentioned in this article instead. Resist the urge to stop in the candy aisle and head straight to the fruit and vegetables aisle... you won't regret the decision.

    I love fruit especially the exotic ones like apple stars, fresh lychees, pawpaws with fresh lime juice and fresh grated coconut, custard fruit, my personal favourite yummy omg it's making my mouth water just thinking about it . With the raising cost of fruit and vegies though I 've had to get creative with how and what I feed my family.

    What I have been doing is buying the cheap boxes of fruit and veg that are close to expirying and with lots of imagination have been serving up meals that the kids will eat.

    Another one of my tricks is to buy the cheap box of fruit and a one or two fruits and this is all about colour and presentation and I arrange them on an open platter which sits at the end of the kitchen bench. Not only does it look appealing but the different colours draws your eye and usually in 2-3 days it's all gone and the boxes of fruit only cost $3-$4 depending on where you shop.

    Putting in a vegetable garden and networking with family and friends has also been beneficial as well , swapping plants and surplus veggies and the local community garden has been a wonderful source of information on composting etc.

    Realistically though, the average cost of living has always been going up and there's been economic changes that have been going on around us for decades. I think sometimes it takes a little life change to make you take stock of what you have and get back to the basics.

    I've enjoyed the simplicity and comaderie that's come back into my life due to the little changes I've made and the overall wellbeing of my family has being well worth the effort.

    On one final note though, it's hard to resist all those lovely colours and eye popping swirls and twists and the sweet stickly smell of lollies, pasteries and cakes.....mmmmm....yes..yes....yes..I got the message...all in moderation....just ONE more piece of chocolate please and I promise tomorrow I'll be good!

    My Dr wants me on medication that has a common side effect of weight gain/increased appetite. I'm not very keen...but in case I take her advice I'd better pay attention to this and any extra suggestions anyone has. I like sugar and chocolate too much!

    I lurve summer because that's when there's a wider variety of fruit available at the supermarkets like strawberries, watermelons & feijoas. Just down the road from where I live is a strawberry farm & they also make the yummiest strawberry ice cream in waffle cones *dribble dribble.

    My neighbours & I also share our fruit trees together, I've got 2 lemon trees & it's great that the lemons grow all year. Sheeks I also didn't realise how expensive lemons can be at the supermarkets until recently.

    I was thinking about this today. Is there anything chocolatey but somewhat healthy you can have without going all the way. I wondered about things like kids chocolate flavoured yogurts. I remember eating them as a kid...anyone tried these lately? Seem to be so many variations but I had a quick glance and some seem healthy enough. I don't want to get a whole 6 pack if they're revolting though!
