Water - an underrated health tonic

To drink enough water daily can deter unnecessary issues. UTI's are a prime example. The body needs hydrating to keep all parts flowing well..... less toxic. Therefore drink water, prior to a night out .

Popping pills e.g. antibiotics has it problems ...... prevention beats having cures

Our bodies comprise approximately 50-75% water. Obese people can have as little as 45% water by weight as fatty tissue contains far less water than lean tissue. You start to feel thirsty when you have lost around 2-3% of your body's water. "One study found that people who drank water before meals ate an average of 75 fewer calories at each meal. That doesn’t sound like a lot -- but multiply 75 calories by 365 days a year. Even if you only drink water before dinner every day, you’d consume 27,000 fewer calories over the course of the year. That’s almost an eight-pound weight loss." http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/water-for-weight-loss-diet

Lack of water contributes to headaches and a lot of people mistake the need of water for hunger. I know that I don't drink enough thats for sure

I believe that it's a myth that you have to actually drink eight glasses of water a day for optimum health. Food has so much water in it. Salad greens such as lettuce, celery and cucumber comprise over 95% water. I do agree that dehydration contributes to headaches and swollen fingers, ankles and feet however so you should drink when you feel thirsty. Your body will let you know when you need more water. There is an interesting article published by Scientific American on this subject at: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/eight-glasses-water-per-day/ which goes as far as to say, drinking too much water can actually be dangerous. It advocates a drink with meals and a drink when you are thirsty is all that any healthy person in normal circumstances needs.

I really do believe that you need at least 8 glasses of water a day. I know I suffer if I haven't been drinking enough. I have also heard that when your body is dehydrated it shuts of the feeling of thirst so that isn't always a indicator of your body's hydration levels. For non water drinkers at the start that feels like an impossible amount to drink but you do find that it becomes easier and you will start feeling when your body is dehydrated. With saying that I better go have a drink now!
