To lose weight and keep it off a protein diet and regular exercise is the way to go. But if we just ate protein alone then we would probably end up with bowel cancer. We need to find a perfect balance between protein and a fibre diet to suit our bodies.
Processed fibre on the other hand such as bread is not good for us, where as raw rolled oates & brown rice are. Any fibre we eat needs to be as natural and in it’s raw state if possible.
So its back to eating meat and several vegetables at tea time. This is what your grandparents and early settlers used to eat, a square meal and work hard. No processed food and no preservatives. They baked and cooked everything thing themselves without preservatives.
Vegetarians can boohoo me, but cave men weren’t fat. Why because they never ate grass or oates and they got plenty of exercise (as seen in the The Croons movie) running away from big animals.
Processed food is a big multi-million dollar industry, that is why they tell us to eat the stuff. Sorry people we store carbohydrates as fat.

Cut down on processed foods and sugar! Stick to whole foods and eat simple and fresh. My breakfast consists of porrige and fresh raw milk (full fat) tastes so good and is cheap! Im not afraid to use butter over margarine either... actually margarine does not exist in our house! Stirfry meals are great too! so easy to prepare and full of fresh veges. An apple and a banana for snacks during the day or a handful of mixed nuts. Also dont peel your potatoes or carrots! the skins are the best bit i just scrub them well under hot water!
Yogurt is a MUST! keep your digestive system and immune system healthy with probiotics :) And lasty cant forget herbal teas... give them a try theres SO many to choose from and leave you feeling great XXX

Agreed peeling vegetables such as carrots and potatoes is just habit, you lose most of the vitamins and l bet many people don't realise this.
Time for a healthy change, toughen up!

My biggest tips to staying slim are:

Regular exercise
Drink lots of water
limit fatty and sugary foods
lower carb intake and eat carbs before 3pm
have one free meal a week
limit portion size.

I do all of this and it works for me.

Eat when you are actually hungry, not just when you feel like eating..

Try to eat more "whole foods" than prepackaged junk

And Harksgirl, I take it you mean have one meat free meal per week? If so, couldn't agree more

Oh, and avoid too much softdrink, juice and booze (we seem to not notice when we drink loads of calories)

Goals are great but I think you need a buddy to keep you on track and motivated to achieve them.

I agree with getting a walking buddy! Walking is the BEST thing you can do for health and fitness. Its free and you get heaps of fresh air and time to think! I either walk with a friend or take my ipod, I cant walk without either because its too boring otherwise!

Walking is great and good for the soul as well as the body. Limit alcohol or give it up altogether. I lost 10kg in 12 months by limiting to two glasses of wine every 6 months ( before, I had one 3-4 glasses per week). I bake instead of buying cakes and treats and drink loads of healthy teas plus water. Also, just by de-stressing my life and not sweeting the small stuff has improved my health massively. Healthy mind gives and healthy body and the rewards happening naturally.
