Gone Girl - the book or the movie?

Everyone is talking about Gone Girl at the moment, and with good reason. It's a compelling tale. However, I really struggled with the convoluted style of the book and lost my way more than once. The slimmed down narrative of the film was far more enjoyable, and created a tension that lasted right through to the final scene.

Anyone else prefer the film to the book?

I've only seen the movie but I really enjoyed it. Must try and get my hands on the book.
