There are heaps of makeup brands out there that purport to be natural, it makes you wonder if people are going to herbal classes and then jumping on the bandwagon and setting up in business. I wonder if their testing is as rigorous as “unnatural “ makeup.

In the end though, do you know of anyone who has died as a result of the makeup they chose to wear, whether it was produced from ‘natural’ ingredients or chemicals and does it make any difference since natural products are just a batch of chemicals found already as part of something.

If you look at the history of makeup, people used characoal for eyeliner (now thought to be carcogenic). Dyes came from plants, blood, insects and clays. In the 1800s a pale look was the fashion and this was often produced by using ‘natural’ lead or ‘arsenic’- both now known to be highly poisonous. Later zinc oxide came along as a safer alternative but anyone hearing the words ‘zinc oxide’ would not consider this a natural product although it is one of the natural ingredients commonly used today in makeup.

Sometimes I just wonder if the whole this whole natural thing is just a big con.

well Dr Hauschka & Calrins is the best skin care- their make up is ok- better for those who like a "natural" look. not good coverage though. Mac & Clairns seems to be the best foundation- trying to have as much natural ingr as possible. Btw, by law there is no testing of cosmetics in New Zealand and all of the major cosmetic companies do no test their product or contents on animals (chanel/revlon/lancome) look at the back of packaging to confrim. Clairol still tests their hair products on rabbits. As for natural ingr well, companies cant afford people suing them.. if in doubt call the companies helpline.
