Robbie Williams Swings Both Ways

Liam Butler

Liam has been reviewing books, movies and music for a bit of light relief since his student days.

Swing Both Ways is Robbie Williams 11th Solo Album and has become #1 in the UK.  When  Swings Both Ways topped the pops it became  the UK’s 1000th Official Number One Album.  Robbie has already sold 55 million albums world-wide.  So it is no surprise that a range of talented performers including Michael Steven Bublé , Kelly Clarkson, Olly Murs and Rufus Wainwright were keen to feature in this fun filled album.

Irving Berlin
’s Putting On The Ritz is performed by Robbie with a superb accompaniment of saxophones, trombones and trumpets. These stalwarts of sensational swing are showcased again in Minnie the Moocher.  Robbie shows an impressive ability to tackle the soulful aspects of Minnie the Moocher whilst keeping the tempo cracking along.

Award winning Pianist Mike Lang and the string section of the London Session Orchestra bring the pace down to help Robbie ponder through his entertaining performance of If only I had a Brain.

No One Likes a Fat Pop Sar. Is the last track Robbie Williams’ dishes up in this album.  The tracks opening line….

“I come from a land of kebabs and curries; second helpings no worries.”

Gives you a taste of the wry humour the song contains. With the heavy involvement of the Capital Voices Choir the London Session Orchestra Robbie boldly ends the album in a way that befits all the fun of a swing ball.
