I should admit straight away that I'm heavily biased: I love Arcade Fire. The Suburbs is one of the best albums of the past few decades, and the same could be said for the band's debut, Funeral. While their sophomore release, Neon Bible, has had its fair share of detractors, I believe it's entirely underappreciated, and actually a fantastic record. So when news of a fourth album, Reflektor, surfaced in the blogosphere, you can imagine my excitement. Arcade Fire recently released the title track from the new album, and it is, to put it mildly, brilliant. I don't want to say too much more, because the music speaks for itself (and I'm running out of superlatives). It's not a typical Arcade Fire song, but it is a step in a very interesting direction. Oh and David Bowie contributes backing vocals. Do you need any more reasons to listen?
As if one video weren't enough, Arcade Fire has released an interaction experience for "Reflektor." Head over to www.justareflektor.com and explore the 'visual projection' from longtime collaborator Vincent Morisset.
The song is easily my favorite of the year so far, and I personally can't wait for the release of Reflektor, October 28th. Arcade Fire will appear at Big Day Out next year, so if you weren't planning on going, you might want to reconsider.
Tickets are stil available from www.bigdayout.com.
I'll be back with an album review in the near future, and with news on all things Reflektor.
